The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) has reported that air cargo transportation in the region has been divided into 59% in cargo aircraft and 41% in passenger aircraft holds. According to José Ricardo Botelho, CEO of ALTA, the year 2024 is expected to be a historic year for Latin America and the Caribbean in terms of passenger volume, with 479 million forecasted, the highest number recorded to date.
The main goal of the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum 2024, which has begun in Nassau, Bahamas, is to foster dialogue among governments, regulators, and airlines to increase operational efficiency and connectivity in the region. The aim is to boost economic and social growth through collaboration in the aviation industry.
During the first nine months of 2024, airlines based in Latin America have increased cargo transport by 10%. In key markets such as Brazil and Colombia, air cargo demand has experienced growth of 9% and 8%, respectively. The Caribbean is also expected to grow, with a 5.75% increase in the number of passengers.
The forum, now in its 20th edition, will address topics such as sustainability, technological innovation, competitiveness, and connectivity, emphasizing the importance of air cargo in strengthening regional economies. A 5.5% increase in passengers, a 6.6% increase in ASK, and a 10% increase in FTK is projected across the region, primarily driven by e-commerce.
The event features participation from prominent figures in the air and tourism sectors, as well as representatives from major companies related to aviation. Among the panelists are CEOs of several recognized airlines, in addition to representatives from entities such as IATA, FAA, Procolombia, ANAC Brazil, and the Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, the forum is expected to contribute to the development and integration of aviation in the region.
